A recent survey by the SCAN Foundation and the UCLA Center for Health Policy Research indicates that many Americans understand the need for long term care but do not know how expensive long term care services will be paid for.
Furthermore, up to 60% o those polled mistakenly believe that Medicare pays for long term care although it only provides limited short term services after a hospital stay.
Long term care insurance is still often the best form of protection against the potentially devastating costs of long term care, but decreasing incomes and increasing LTC insurance premiums are making it more difficult to buy.
